Skybox Security: Securing Data by Eliminating Attack Vectors

CIO Vendor In today’s information-centric world, business and organizations are accessing large volumes of data which increases their vulnerability and risk of information loss and breaches. To avert the risks and possibilities of data loss which may result in huge financial and business losses, organizations are readily deploying technologies that guard them against attack vectors as well as safeguard sensitive business information. According to the 2015 Gartner report, although the frequency of a cyber security attack on a large scale is low, by the end of 2018, nearly 40 percent of large enterprises will have formal plans to address aggressive cyber security attacks.

“For years, CISOs and CIOs have struggled to gain a satisfactory level of visibility over their attack surface, so they can truly understand their organization’s vulnerability to threats,” says Gidi Cohen, Founder and CEO, Skybox Security. “Traditional approaches fall short—data is isolated between technologies from multiple vendors, providing only fleeting glimpse into an enterprise’s state of security.” Established in 2002, Skybox Security, a privately held company with worldwide sales and support teams offers security management and operations with the befitting tools they need to eliminate attack vectors and secure business data.

With a clear visibility and context-aware intelligence of the attack surface, Skybox solutions facilitate effective vulnerability and threat management, firewall management, and continuous compliance monitoring. Unveiled at the RSA Conference in San Francisco, the firm’s product, Horizon, is a first-of-its-kind security management tool that gives companies the unprecedented ability to visualize their risk levels. “When CISOs have only partial information, they can’t analyze data in context, which limits their ability to quickly make decisions about where to direct scarce resources. We’re changing this with Horizon,” states Cohen.

Integrating with the Skybox Security Suite, Horizon uses contextual intelligence gained from consolidating and analyzing data from various sources to create a visual, interactive model that links network topology, network connections, business units, and organizational hierarchy.

Horizon also shows Indicator of Exposures (IoEs), such as exploitable attack vectors, hot spots of vulnerabilities, network security misconfigurations, and risky firewall access rules, giving CISOs deep insight into the state of their security from the widest possible range of sources.

The firm also proffers Skybox Vulnerability Control that goes beyond scanners, using attack surface context and analytics to fill in blind spots, prioritize risks, and focus remediation efforts fast. Further, this offering combines data from scanners, vulnerability, and threat intelligence sources and more to bring all vulnerabilities into the light. With total network visibility and continuous threat information, the solution automatically analyzes business risks and prioritizes remediation activities within the context of the users’ network.

In one instance, SkyBox Security helped a multinational oil and gas provider to reduce the time of vulnerability exposure. Prior to the implementation of the solution, the customer's IT security team conducted regular network scans on core servers. However, scanning critical services across the firewall infrastructure caused disruption on their network. Therefore, the client was seeking an alternative to traditional scanning without impacting network operations. By using Skybox Vulnerability Control, the client was able to identify vulnerabilities and execute remediation faster and more accurately, reducing the window of exposure from weeks to mere hours. The solution reduced false positives, and allowed the team to shift scarce security resources to other priorities.

Skybox is planning toward expanding its footprint in the security and risk management arena by innovating its solutions to assure customer satisfaction. The firm is enroute to establish itself as a medium that exposes cyber attacks by helping its customers gain clarity on the state of their information security and IoEs.
